Recent census information suggests that many Americans cannot afford to pay for their homes, with Westerners the least likely to be able to afford their mortgage payment. In fact, 7 out of 10 Westerners cannot afford to buy a median priced home in their respective market. More than half of Midwesterners, on the other hand, live in the most affordable homes, due in part to a lower cost of living and less housing appreciation.

Strangely enough, both the highest and lowest places in the continental United States are so close that if you stand on one point, you can easily see the other. Mount Whitney in California is the highest peak at 14, 494 feet above sea level, while nearby Death Valley is the lowest point at 282 feet below sea level.

They're Making More

Will Rogers once remarked that land was a good investment because they weren’t making any more. Obviously, Mr. Rogers never met the Dutch, who, since the 1930s, have reclaimed over a half million acres of land from the sea through the construction of an elaborate system of dikes, seawalls, and pumps.
