Recent census information suggests that many Americans cannot afford to pay for their homes, with Westerners the least likely to be able to afford their mortgage payment. In fact, 7 out of 10 Westerners cannot afford to buy a median priced home in their respective market. More than half of Midwesterners, on the other hand, live in the most affordable homes, due in part to a lower cost of living and less housing appreciation.
